CHAPTER 1: The Beginning<\/h3><\/h3>\n\n

Picture this: the late 19th century, and Saint-Claude proudly wears the crown as the pipe-making capital of France. The Jeantet family is already a big player, running Jeantet-David, a pipe-making outfit founded in 1816. <\/p>\n\n

By the early 20th century, though, there\u2019s a catch\u2014every single pipe stem comes from Germany. That\u2019s a problem when demand is booming.<\/p>\n\n

Enter Paul and Maurice Jeantet. In 1905, they spearhead the creation of “L\u2019\u00c9bonite,” a bold move to break free from German imports and master the tricky art of transforming this thermosetting, moldable material. <\/p>\n\n

It\u2019s not smooth sailing at first\u2014ebonite\u2019s a tough nut to crack. But Paul teams up with chemist Georges Morard, and together they crack the code. There\u2019s even a vintage photo of the duo posing with a mixing cylinder: Paul standing tall beside it, Georges perched atop it like he\u2019s conquered the beast. <\/p>\n\n

Soon, production kicks into high gear. Over 100,000 pipe stems roll out daily, supplying Saint-Claude\u2019s pipe makers with top-notch quality. The Jeantet name starts to mean something: innovation, independence, and excellence. <\/p>\n\n

CHAPTER 2: The Growth<\/h3><\/h3>\n\n

By 1930, renamed Paul Jeantet et Cie, the company realizes it can\u2019t just rest on its pipe-stem laurels. Diversification is the name of the game. Ebonite proves versatile, and soon they\u2019re churning out combs, clarinet mouthpieces, and even medical supplies. <\/p>\n\n

This expansion gets a major boost in 1917 with a second factory in Gennevilliers (just outside Paris). It\u2019s a big deal\u2014complete with a ceremonial laying of the first stone and the firing up of the boilers. Paul Jeantet\u2019s eldest son gets the honor of striking the first match, a symbolic spark for what\u2019s to come. The Gennevilliers plant starts to produce ebonite goods and dives into PVC production too. <\/p>\n\n

Fast forward to 1965, and Fran\u00e7ois Jeantet makes a strategic call: shut down Gennevilliers and refocus everything in Saint-Claude. The goal? Become the specialist in soft rubber. <\/p>\n\n

At its peak, the combined Saint-Claude and Gennevilliers sites employed nearly 1,000 people. By the end of France\u2019s post-war boom, the workforce is around 150 in Saint-Claude\u2014a leaner, meaner operation ready for the modern era. <\/p>\n\n

Through it all, the Jeantet Group has stayed obsessed with mastering rubber-related crafts<\/a>: mixing<\/a>, molding<\/a>, finishing,pouring their hearts into in-house training and career growth, ensuring their expertise stays sharp and relevant. Over the years, they\u2019 ve \u00a0employed everyone from carpenters and sculptors to mechanics, pipe benders, and polishers\u2014proof of\u00a0 versatility and attention to detail.<\/p>\n\n

CHAPTER 3: Complementarity<\/h3><\/h3>\n\n

It all began in 1883, when \u00c9mile Perrot, a Swiss entrepreneur, founded a tannery-roasting plant in Bellegarde-sur-Valserine, in the Ain. On his death, his sons Henri and Georges took over the reins of the company, which became Perrot Fr\u00e8res. For almost 80 years, the company specialized in leathers, but the evolution of demand led to the abandonment of the tannery sector in the early 1960s.<\/p>\n\n

Faced with industrial transformations, Perrot Fr\u00e8res is moving towards a new field: sealing rubbers, becoming a key player in Europe. This ability to innovate marks a strategic turning point for society.It specializes in the manufacture and processing of natural and synthetic elastomer products, used to manufacture machined joints, bellows, and all types of technical rubber parts.<\/p>\n\n

In 2007, Perrot was acquired by the Jeantet group, which refocused the site\u2019s activities on the manufacture of custom-made precision parts. The Bellegarde-sur-Valserine site provides the group with a complementary product range in existing markets. Jeantet Elastom\u00e8res brings its expertise in the formulation of rubbers and Perrot its expertise in machined joints. In 2020, the Perrot brand is integrated into the Jeantet company and its values are perpetuated every day by all teams.<\/p>\n\n

Chapter 4: Diversification<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

The Jeantet Group has consistently prioritized innovation to deliver cutting-edge products to its clients. <\/p>\n\n

In 1905, ebonite represented a pioneering material. During the post-war economic boom of the Trente Glorieuses, rubber enabled the mass production of products that enhanced living standards and met evolving consumer demands. By the late 20th century, new plastic materials emerged, challenging rubber’s dominance. Thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) combined flexibility with ease of processing, marking a significant advancement.<\/p>\n\n

Leveraging its expertise in vulcanizable elastomers<\/a>, the Jeantet Group initiated a strategic diversification project in 2000, spearheaded by Fr\u00e9d\u00e9rique Jeantet.<\/p>\n\n

This led to the establishment of Ixemer, a subsidiary dedicated to thermoplastic elastomers, based in Saint-Claude in partnership with Jean-Pierre Grosfilley. Ixemer introduced an innovative technology: multi-material thermoplastic injection molding. This process enables the simultaneous molding of multiple materials using a single machine, eliminating the need for assembly or secondary processing. Concurrently, Ixemer launched a new range of an historic Jeantet product – boat trailer wheels<\/a>, originally manufactured in rubber since the 1950s.<\/p>\n\n

In 2003, Ixemer introduced an innovative range of soft-touch, dual-material pens, driving significant growth and necessitating the construction of a new facility. The company gained recognition for its teams\u2019 expertise in developing high-precision technical products. Equipped with seven rotary-base machines and Billion presses manufactured in Oyonnax, Ixemer strenghtened its operational capabilities. The synergy between Jeantet and Ixemer expanded the Group\u2019s product offerings, providing clients with a complementary range of solutions.<\/p>\n\n

In 2024, Ixemer relocated its manufacturing site to Martignat in the Ain department to support its ambitious growth objectives. In 2025, Ixemer celebrates its 25th anniversary.<\/p>\n\n

CHAPTER 6: Mastering Moulding & Overmoulding<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

With over 120 years of experience, the Jeantet Group has consistently integrated the most innovative manufacturing technologies to meet the most demanding technical challenges.<\/p>\n\n

Elastomer moulding is a crucial step in rubber processing. This technique involves shaping the material by introducing it into a mould. Much like a baker pouring batter into a tin and then baking it, the finished “cake” emerges ready for consumption! However, behind this appetising metaphor lies a complex world where every detail counts. The material reacts to heat, pressure, cycle time, geometry, and more.<\/p>\n\n

To meet market demands and ensure quality production, we operate four workshops equipped with presses ranging from 10 to 1300 tons of clamping force. This machinery allows us to produce a wide variety of parts in terms of dimensions, complexity, and weight, with individual items ranging from 0.0035 oz to 440.924 lb. Our group is therefore capable of meeting the specific needs of both small batch runs and the high-volume requirements of industrial production.<\/p>\n\n

Over the decades, our processes have evolved from industrial craftsmanship to the digital mastery of our production chain. Compression moulding, our historical method, remains perfectly suited for large components or short runs. Raw rubber is placed directly into a mould, and under the effect of pressure and heat, it takes the desired shape. Conversely, for injection moulding, the raw material is fed into the mould by a ram. This fast and precise technology is ideal for high-volume series and complex parts. These are two complementary approaches that we selected based on the technical challenges at hand.<\/p>\n\n

Since the 1980s, the Jeantet Group has specialised in manufacturing multi-material parts. Mastering overmoulding involves creating hybrid components by designing a perfect alliance between an elastomer and substrates such as metal, plastic, or fabric. The most common methods are mechanical interlocking or adhesion, which involves chemically bonding an elastomer to its insert. From the year 2000 onwards, Ixemer successfully transposed this expertise by creating alliances of different thermoplastics through multi-injection.<\/p>\n\n

CHAPITRE 7 : IXEMER, 25 Years of Expertise in Multi-Component Injection Moulding<\/strong><\/mark><\/h3>\n\n

IXEMER, the plastics processing subsidiary of the Jeantet Group and a specialist in two-shot (2K) injection moulding, was established in 2000 and celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. At IXEMER – Jeantet Group, wefirmly believe that multi-component injection moulding is a strategic growth and value lever, providing a direct response to the increasing demands of theplastics industry.<\/p>\n\n

Unlike conventional overmoulding, which requires two separate moulding machines (a first injection, followed by repositioning the part in a second mould on a second machine) \u2014 two-shot injection moulding is faster and more precise. This technology eliminates the need forsemi-finished (work-in-progress) inventory and removes the requirement for robotic transfer between machines. It also ensures superior bond strength between the different materials.<\/p>\n\n

Several processes are used in multi-component moulding: core-back<\/strong> (slide) technology, transfer<\/strong> (pick-and-place) technology, rotary platen<\/strong> technology, and Cube moulding<\/strong> technology.<\/p>\n\n

Each of these technologies utilizes a single moulding machine equipped with multiple injection units, thereby reducing production stages and minimising the risk of errors. 2K injection moulding is therefore perfectly aligned with key current industry challenges, includingprocess and cost optimisation, and the practical application of eco-design principles.<\/p>\n\n

Furthermore, multi-component moulding offers a multitude of solutions for meeting aesthetic requirements, combining the properties of different materials, or eliminating secondary operations such as assembly or bonding. This allows us to integrate soft-touch grips,integrated seals, or distinct visual effects, all without compromising on structural integrity.<\/p>\n\n
